UPDATE:
The .vmf of our release invasion style map is downloadable here: inv_gridbase.zip (69 kb). If you create something wonderful, we'd love to host it on our site, and maybe even include it in our next release. Either post a link to your creation on our forums, or e-mail it to joe@antfarmsource.com. We will not only provide a place to host your map, but also link to your homepage or other works if you like. Enjoy!
Notes:
Mapping for the Antfarm-patched games is very similar to mapping for HL2, but there are certain things to keep in mind:
- Make sure that all respawn points and items are created along the same plane
- Angled objects and explosions can knock players or objects out of their "lanes." Use player_clip brushes around 36 units apart to allow players room to move, and invisible brushes 54-64 units apart to keep the energy balls in. If the player_clip's are much closer, players won't be able to move. If wider, they'll get knocked out of their lanes by punting. If the invisible brushes are much closer, the energy balls will make terrible noises as they bounce rapidly back and forth on stray shots (Try it, you'll see what I mean).
- The camera is always 512 units away from the player, so don't forget to leave space for it.
- If you need a map to play around in, you can also download our test map, 2dmap. For a more realistic map, check out Zach Lewis's dm_skyline.
- The base combine ball spawner used in AF:Spheres is found at The Snarkpit
